Buddhism in india

According to some reports buddhism has undergone a revival in post-colonial India. is this corect or not? the temple at the bodhi tree (Mahabodhi) was restored after India won its indipendence from the UK in 1947. but is this a sign of a revival of the religion or just an effort to increse tourism in the area? anyway how has my new religion fared in its first homeland since 1947?
